Sustainability

Sustainability in our operations ensures the success of our Company, as well as its long-term viability. To achieve this, we identify and manage the positive and negative impacts we generate and promote good practices throughout our chain, from our suppliers to our customers.

Our Sustainability strategy is divided into three main pillars.

Here is their scope:

Ourplanet

This pillar integrates the circular economy as the goal of our operations, including the proper use and disposal of water, energy-efficient consumption, and the protection of ecosystems.

Ourcommunity

Our stakeholders include our customers, employees, suppliers, shareholders, neighbors or surrounding community, and governmental and local entities. With each of these groups, we develop activities and forge partnerships aimed at increasing the recovery rate of plastic containers and bottles.

OurGrowth

Increasing the tons of each type of resin transformed annually is undoubtedly the most relevant indicator for evaluating our growth. However, this is achieved by producing a high-quality, competitive product that meets market needs. Therefore, regulatory compliance, proper stakeholder engagement, innovation, and eco-design are key to growing the operational revenue and market positioning.

Contributing  to the SDGs

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a universal call for impactful work. In our role, we contribute to reducing poverty, protecting, and preserving the planet, and improving the lives of people around the world.

01. No Poverty

The professional recycling community is the cornerstone of our operations. According to rulings and orders issued by the Constitutional Court of Colombia, they are considered a vulnerable population in need of special protection. Our primary support is provided through benefits to improve their working conditions and by creating well-being spaces.

08. Decent Work and Economic Growth

We drive the country’s progress by offering employment with fair wages to our employees and creating job opportunities for young people.

09. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

We promote sustainable economic growth by closing the loop on plastic containers and returning them to the industry as recovered raw material. We create value from waste through advanced polymer transformation processes to deliver a high-quality final product to the market.

10. Reduced Inequalities

Through the Biocirculo Community, we bring together the main actors in the value chain to benefit waste pickers, dignify their work, and reduce the significant inequalities they face in society.

11. Sustainable Cities and Communities

We promote a recycling culture and waste separation among the Colombian population, facilitating the work of waste pickers. We also encourage the care and cleaning of green areas, parks, and public spaces to reduce the environmental impact, such as pollution and waste, generated by large cities and urban areas.

12. Responsible Consumption and Production

Through the transformation of post-consumer plastics, we break the linear economy and create a cycle where the material is returned to the industry, replacing the use of virgin plastic and mitigating the negative consequences of its extraction and use.

13. Climate Action

We reduce the number of containers that end up in landfills and/or pollute the environment (seas, rivers, forests, and other ecosystems). We also promote activities for the care of the planet, such as tree planting events, nature walks, ecosystem clean-ups, etc.

"Leave No One Behind"

This is the central and transformative promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (UN).

Environmental IndicatorsPositive

Energy Conservation

We save over 482 million BTUs* compared to the process of obtaining virgin raw material.

Number of Bottles Transformed

Over 418 million PET bottles.
Over 34 million HDPE and PP bottles and containers in various shades.

Environmental Protection

We prevent pollution and damage to natural ecosystems such as parks, rivers, seas, wetlands, and more, as well as the accumulation of waste in landfills.

CO2 Emissions

We avoid emitting 15,799 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Resource Consumption

We avoid using approximately 83,216 barrels of oil.

What Makes Us Different?

We have a large network of suppliers and waste pickers whom we support daily, aiming to improve their working conditions while generating well-being for them and their families through our Biocirculo Community program.

Actions We DevelopThat Lead Us to Become a B Corporation

We have a series of practices and programs designed to ensure that our operations are based on sustainability guidelines. Key practices that have enabled us to become a B Corporation include:

  • This activity helps reduce the consumption of non-renewable resources such as oil.
  • It ensures the closure of the cycle for thousands of plastic containers that could otherwise end up in the environment or in landfills, creating a positive environmental impact.
  • It generates economic income for recycling warehouses and their waste pickers, who are considered subjects of special protection by the Constitutional Court in Colombia.

A strengthening and well-being program with a focus on the recycling community, integrating consumers, recycling warehouses, waste pickers, and partner companies.

We have a code of conduct for suppliers, where we express our zero tolerance for child labor.

Over 80% of our purchases are made from local suppliers, promoting, and boosting the local economy.
